Tips For Selecting The Best Mobile Plans On The Market

Choosing a mobile phone plan can often be overwhelming. With so many out there offering different features and benefits, it can be confusing to know which is right for you.

We want to help you to get the best deal for your money. Check out our handy guide to help you next time you come to choose a mobile plan.

Contract or Pay As You Go

A contract means you’ll receive a monthly bill regardless of how many minutes you spend on calls, texting or browsing the internet. Usually, if you go over the amount stipulated in your contract you’ll have to pay to cover this. On the other hand, with pay as you go, you’ll simply need to top up when you run out of minutes or data.

With contract, you’ll often find you have a high number of texts and calls, if not unlimited, which can be appealing if you use this part of your mobile a lot. On the other hand, if you use your mobile fairly sporadically, pay as you go might be more beneficial. It’s important to consider the long term commitment required for a contract. You’ll often have to sign up for 12 or 24 months, which is a long time in the world of technology.

Contract with a phone

If you’re desperate for a new phone, sometimes you’ll find contracts come with a phone, where the phone is far cheaper than if you were to buy it outright. This can seem a tempting offer, especially if the phone you want is out of your budget. However, it’s important to remember that the contract will usually tie you in for 12-24 months, and the cost of the phone is covered within the monthly payment. If you stop to work out how much you’ll be paying during the duration of your contract, you might find that you’ll be paying far more than if you brought the mobile and contract separately.

Data or WiFi

Most mobile plans will come with a data allowance, allowing you to access the Internet away from a WiFi hotspot. You’ll be able to buy plans with increasing allowances, so you’ll need to consider how often you’ll be using your data. Alternatively, you could get one with low data or none at all, if you prefer to only use the Internet when accessing WiFi.

Check discount options

You’ll find many services offer discount options, which could range from discounts on same-network calls, long-distance calls during off peak hours and packages with free or cheap SMS. Check the different plans and see the discounts they offer, and if any are relevant to you. Then you can compare these with other plans to see if the discounts help to make them a more viable option.
